Vietnamese military-run telecommunications provider Viettel has asked for permission to increase
calls charges for overseas incoming calls to USD 0.06 per minute, from the current USD 0.041 per minute. People making calls
to Vietnam pay between USD 0.50 to USD 1 per minute to their operator but these operators pay only VND 0.041 to Vietnamese
operators, Viet Nam News cites Viettel's deputy general director Nguyen Manh Hung as saying. A telecommunications ministry
official said that a foreign consultancy firm had previously advised them that charges could be raised to USD 0.10 to 0.12
per minute.
